Update – Extension of lockdown to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in Mauritius

Further to our communiqué of 11 April 2020 (https://www.axis.mu/newsroom/update-extension-of-lockdown-to-prevent-the-spread-of-covid-19-in-mauritius/) where we informed you that Mauritius was extending its sanitary curfew until Monday 04 May 2020, the Honourable Prime Minister announced last Friday 01 May 2020 that the curfew was further extended up to Monday 01 June 2020.  The decision was taken after reviewing the prevailing conditions in the country and although the number of confirmed cases in Mauritius was below WHO projections and being contained with many recoveries and very few new cases in the past few days, the country would need to maintain a further period of vigilance as it continues to fight the Covid-19 pandemic and to prevent a second wave of new cases.

The Honourable Prime Minister announced that certain business activities will be allowed to re-open as from 15 May 2020, subject to strict sanitary measures being complied with and individuals attending their place of work being holders of work access permits. The Government will continue with certain social and financial assistance measures to help people in need, to prevent loss of jobs and to provide support in the informal sector.

Our Business Continuity Plan which has been a great success so far, remains operational and our employees will continue to work from home in order to service our client needs.

If you have any queries or concerns in respect of the above or have any enquiries in relation to your business, please feel free to contact your respective relationship person by email and they will revert to you at earliest.

We wish you, your families, and your staff continued health and safety throughout this challenging period.

Kind Regards

The Axis team
