Mauritius improves its position in the GFCI 33

The Financial Services Commission, Mauritius (“FSC”) has released a communiqué on 23 March 2023 to inform the stakeholders of the financial services industry that Mauritius has improved its position in the Global Financial Centre Index (GFCI), by 11 places, reaching 81st in the ranking from 92nd.

The 33rd edition of the GFCI was published on 23 March 2023 by the Z/Yen Group Limited, in partnership with the China Development Institute (CDI). The GFCI serves as a valuable reference for policy and investment decision-makers as it assesses and evaluates the competitiveness and rankings of financial centres across the globe. It is also highlighted that “The 120 centres in the GFCI 33 are assigned a profile on the basis of a set of rules for the three measures: how well connected a centre is, how broad its services are, and how specialised it is.”

During this launch, Mr. Dhanesswurnath Thakoor delivered a keynote address on “Mauritius as a Funds destination through Variable Capital Companies”. He elaborated on the funds industry in Mauritius, with a focus on the features and advantages of Variable Capital Companies.
