Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Reaches MUR 13,513 Million in the First Half of 2023

The Bank of Mauritius has released the initial figures for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during the first half of 2023, which amounted to Rs 13,513 million. This marks a notable 33% increase compared to the same period in 2022 when FDI was Rs 10,086 million. The sources of FDI primarily came from France and South Africa, with notable growth also seen from Belgium, Germany, the UK, the US, the U.A.E, and India.

These figures represent a new high compared to the last seven years, with pre-pandemic averages around Rs 10,110 million. The recent increase in FDI can be attributed to government reforms, which have improved the country’s economic competitiveness and ease of doing business, along with increased investor confidence. This positive performance reflects enduring trust from investors in the Mauritian IFC despite challenging global circumstances.
