Commemoration of Africa Day 2023 and the 60th anniversary of the African Union (AU)

During a reception held to commemorate Africa Day 2023 and the 60th anniversary of the African Union (AU), the Prime Minister of Mauritius expressed his appreciation for the AU’s chosen theme for 2023, which focuses on “The Year of the AfCFTA: Accelerating the Implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area.” The Prime Minister highlighted the significance of intra-African trade for Africa’s future and commended the AU’s efforts in this regard.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister emphasized that Mauritius has taken on the responsibility of presiding over the steering committee of the Organisation of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS) since the beginning of 2023. The Prime Minister reiterated that Mauritius is tirelessly working towards the earliest signing of the Post-Cotonou Agreement between the OACPS and the European Union. This agreement aims to facilitate trade and development cooperation, ensuring that member states of the African Union can fully benefit from these arrangements. Mauritius is leaving no stone unturned in its efforts to advance this objective.
